Baci di Dama are cookies from the town of Tortona in Piedmont, where they were born a hundred years ago. Their name was inspired by the shape, they are supposed to resemble lips ready to be kissed. Although the origin of baci di dama is today commonly attributed to Tortona, another version assumes that they originated in nearby Novi Ligure. They were supposed to have been baked by pastry chef Augusto Manelli, who worked in the city in the 19th century. Manelli then moved to Tortona, where he met Vercesi and Zanotti, who made baking famous.
