Rame di Napoli is a typical sweet from Catania, usually eaten during All Saints’ Day celebrations. These are cookies with a soft cocoa flavor, completely covered with a dark chocolate coating. The origin of the name is not exactly known. One hypothesis is that a confectioner from Naples is the inventor of this recipe. Another hypothesis speaks of an act of vassalage of Sicily against Naples in the era of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. It is said that during the reign of the Bourbons, after the union of the Kingdom of Naples with the Kingdom of Sicily, a coin containing a copper alloy was minted to replace those with an alloy of gold and silver. People, with the introduction of a new currency, created a baking that would recreate this coin.
Plant-based Rame di Napoli are artisanal biscuits,
there may be slight variations in shapes and sizes.
